Torino di Sangro
A town located in the province of Chieti, this small municipality stands on a hill overlooking the valleys of the Sangro, from which it takes its name, and Osento rivers. The economy is mainly based on tourism, highly developed thanks to the Marina di Torino di Sangro resort, one of the most popular seaside resorts in the region. Agriculture is also very important, especially the cultivation of vines and olives, an excellent economic source for the town itself.
The origins of Torino di Sangro are very ancient, and most probably date back to the 12th century; it is a town of great historical and natural interest, its centre is characterised by numerous churches and palaces. It is one of the quietest seaside resorts in the Chietino area, suitable for families and those who want to spend a relaxing holiday, offering numerous accommodation facilities and services to suit every need.
It is also a town that is very attached to its traditions and every year celebrates religious festivals, the most important of which is the Madonna di Loreto, which takes place in the last part of May and is much awaited and felt by all the inhabitants and the many tourists who come to take part in it.
It also boasts of an important naturalistic importance in the Lecceta Nature Reserve, an area that extends for about 175 hectares along the right bank of the Sangro river. The Lecceta is a typically Mediterranean forest where holm oaks predominate. The fauna is also of great interest, with resident and migratory water birds, mammals such as foxes, stone martens and wild boars. Reptiles include the terrestrial tortoise, which is the symbol of the reserve.
The reserve is criss-crossed by paths and hiking trails for those who want to discover all its beauty, where we find picnic areas for rest and relaxation.
