Discover the Trans-Siberian Railway of Italy, a journey out of time!

Walking along the paths of the Majella Park, you may see a train approaching. Yes, this region rich in natural treasures and incomparable beauty also holds such surprises in store for you, the spectacle of a train climbing up the mountains.

This is the Park Railway, better known as the Trans-Siberian Railway of Italy, which is a true masterpiece of 19th-century Italian railway engineering.

It reaches an altitude of 1,268 metres and is the second highest point of the FS network after the Brenner station; but the line also has impressive numbers: one hundred and thirty kilometres of track, fifty-eight tunnels, one hundred and three major works of art including bridges and viaducts, three hundred and seventy-four minor works of art including aqueducts, bridges, avalanche barriers and flyovers.

When it was inaugurated back in 1892, it ran from Sulmona to Cansano, then later on to Isernia. During the Second World War, the line suffered serious damage and restoration work was only completed in 1960.

Today, thanks to the Fondazione FS Italiane, it is once again possible to experience the thrill of a journey through the mountains on board a train, which with its slow pace, in an unhurried and timeless journey, allows you to admire the splendid spectacle offered by a unique panorama, both in summer and in winter.

In fact, the race calendar includes dates throughout the year, with different but always exciting routes. Immersed in the fascinating atmosphere of the snow-capped mountains or the dazzling green of spring or the explosion of colours of autumn, it will always be an unforgettable experience.
