Discovering Lake Campotosto
Lake Campotosto is a destination for many tourists every year. It is an ideal place for fishing, cycling and water sports enthusiasts and for all those who are looking for a day out in the open air, immersed in a splendid natural setting and sheltered from all sources of stress.
Situated at an altitude of more than 1300 metres and located at the foot of the Laga Mountains, this 1400-hectare lake is set in a picturesque landscape. Surrounded by the imposing Abruzzo mountains, it is possible, from the edge of the lake, to see the Gran Sasso and its highest peak, the Corno Grande.
Beautiful meadows and unusual vegetation also characterise this area, enveloped by beech and chestnut woods and willows that reach considerable sizes. The fauna aspect is also interesting: birdwatchers, for example, will find in this area a place to cultivate their passion.
Thanks to the favourable ecosystem present, in fact, the area is populated by numerous species of birds, including the Croccolone, symbol of the Campotosto Lake Nature Reserve.
The Reserve aims to protect the entire area for its naturalistic and landscape value. The area also offers visitors historically and architecturally significant churches and an important wine and food heritage. Do not miss the opportunity to taste typical local dishes and products, including the original Campotosto 'mortadella'.
Not far from the Adriatic Sea, Lake Campotosto is therefore also an ideal destination for those who stay on the coast but want to dedicate a day to discovering the Abruzzo hinterland. Immersed in nature among majestic mountains and magical places, you will carry a little bit of Abruzzo with you forever in your heart.
